Julianne Taylor, NZ Registered General and Obstetric Nurse, Associate Registered Nutritionist Julianne’s passion for the power of nutrition was ignited in 1996. She experienced first-hand the difference diet makes; she experimented with the then popular Zone diet, and within days experienced increased energy, improved mental focus, and excellent appetite control leading to weight loss without…
I take a whole food approach to losing weight, increasing energy, and managing auto-immune disease.
By whole food, I mean food that comes from nature where at all possible and is still recognisable as food, in it’s original package, not out of a box. We need to recognise that humans are another animal. To find the best diet for humans we need knowledge of the diet that we evolved on, combined with current nutrition science.

I love carrying out nutrition related research and writing.
I was the researcher on the very successful NZ on Air funded documentary presented by Nigel Latta: “Is Sugar the New Fat?” which has aired in New Zealand and Australia. Is Sugar the New Fat? I am currently researching a series on obesity.
More recently I carried out research for the documentary series “Why Are We Fat?” presented by Chef Simon Gault.
I have also carried out post-graduate research on diet and rheumatoid arthritis. Posts on my research can be found here
I have written both Paleo diet and Zone diet guides in the past. My current philosophy is that we need to find a diet to suit our own physiological and health requirements. I am currently writing an updated nutrition guide book based on my current research. This is not a one size fits all, but…
I have just completed a post grad diploma in nutrition at Massey (first year of Masters) and for my last 2 papers I did a research project on rheumatoid arthritis and diet. Here is what the topic was called: “An investigation into the use of a Paleolithic diet by people with rheumatoid arthritis” This was…

“When I sought help with Julianne I was not sleeping well, both not getting to sleep easily or able to stay asleep the whole night, easily angered, crying and having trouble concentrating and remembering things. I had debilitating PMT and depression and hypoglycaemia. I’d been hospitalised twice for irregular heartbeat. Given that my personality is usually calm, logical and organised I was really struggling in my job.
As an analytical person I had done quite a bit of research into diets etc. but it can be so confusing when unwell and when there is so many different opinions. Also I was looking for a quick fix; a supplement or therapy that would “cure” me.
Julianne was very kind, I think I was crying when I turned up because my foggy brain got me lost.
She listened to my worries and concerns and reassured me when I thought it seemed too hard or wasn’t working. I had tried gluten free before but Julianne told me I would feel worse before I felt better and encouraged me to push on. What a great help just to know that!
It’s been just over a year now and I don’t need to get a test for my thyroid, I know it’s better as I can swallow in the morning without pain and I have been in a job as a Manager for nearly 6 months which would have been impossible a year ago. I love not having fat days and being able to think in the afternoon instead of fuzzy thinking.” Raquel J
“I attended your Paleo seminar on October 10th and thoroughly enjoyed it! Finally a way of eating that makes sense and doesn’t involve starving . I’ve been eating Paleo since the seminar and I just wanted to share some amazing results. I have always had psoriasis (scalp only) since I can remember (I’m 42) to some degree. Just before starting Paleo it was pretty bad (rather snowy!). After one week no psoriasis! I’m over the moon! No other variables – such as changing shampoo.
Though I’m not taking up the 30 day challenge – I’m just not that pure – I will remain following this eating plan to my utmost ability as it simply works. I also have minimal bloating (I still eat more fruit than recommended, as I love it).
I didn’t know a great deal about Paleo prior to the seminar, other than reading a North and South article, and from my friend who invited me to go to your seminar. I would strongly recommend anyone wishing to follow Paleo attend one of your seminars first – as getting a clearer understanding helps with keeping motivated. I particularly enjoyed the science on a cellular/molecular level as it suits the way I think.
Some people seem to tolerate eating a lot of starchy carbohydrates, while others swear a low carb diet changed their life. The AMY1 gene that codes for salivary amylase might explain why. Before I knew anything about the effect of diet on my health and hunger, I did notice that an hour or 2 after…
Many people with rheumatoid arthritis report success using an AIP (auto-immune paleo protocol). There are a number of reasons why the AIP protocol is effective for auto-immune disease including rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However it is important to point out that not all will respond to AIP, there are many factors that contribute to auto-immune disease…
Ten people with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) share their insights into the foods that cause them flares and the foods that are safe (Please read my earlier post also – case studies where eliminating certain foods put RA into remission) For information on how to follow an auto-immune protocol: The Paleo Mom – Sarah Balantyne Phoenix…
